Sonja ist in der Küche als es klingelt. Das wird James sein, denkt sie
und geht zur Tür. Doch als sie öffnet, wird sie positiv überrascht. „Hallo
Courtney. Du auch hier?“
Instead of answering, Courtney gives Sonja a
big hug. “It’s good to see you, Sonja.”
„Stimmt“, bestätigt Sonja und nimmt ihre Freundin in den Arm. Dann
schaut sie zu James und fragt amüsiert: „Hast du deine Mutter überredet, mitzuspielen?“
James shrugs and rolls his eyes, faking
annoyance. “Mom was afraid that I’d get lost on the long subway ride and
–”
“Stop that!” Courtney gives her son a little nudge and
laughs.
Verwirrt schaut Sonja von einem zum anderen.
“I had nothing to do at home,” Courtney
explains, “and when James told me that you guys were meeting up, I thought I’d
come along.”
„Ja klar. Warum nicht? Wir haben uns ja auch schon lange nicht mehr
gesehen“, antwortet Sonja und leitet somit das Gespräch ein.
“Right,“ Courtney agrees enthusiastically. “The
last time was before we went to Saskatoon. Let me think … that was … four weeks
ago?”
„Nein. Ich glaube, das
ist schon länger her. Fünf oder sechs Wochen mindestens.“
“Could be. I guess we have a lot of catching up
to do. Do you –“
“Mom!” James interrupts his mother and starts
dribbling his soccer ball impatiently. “We had a deal.”
“Hm?” Courtney turns to her son. “Oh, yeah. I’m
sorry, James. I just so excited to see her.”
Sonja ist schon wieder
verwirrt. „Eine Abmachung? Wieso …“
Courtney smiles excusingly. “I promised my son
not to talk too much. At least not before you’ve played your match.”
Sonja muss lachen und wendet sich an James. „Na, wenigstens hast du
dich in deinem Urlaub nicht verändert.“
James gives her an ironic smile. “Nope, still
the same.”
„Gut, dann los. Ich
hole nur schnell meine Schuhe.“
