Das Telefon klingelt und Sonja verdreht
die Augen. Sie ist allein zuhause und fühlt sich schon fast wie im Call-Center.
Ständig ruft jemand an. Sie geht zum Telefon und nimmt den Hörer ab. “Hello?”
“Hello. Is this Sonja speaking?”
“Yes it is, who’s there?”
“Hi, Sonja this is Courtney.”
Sonja überlegt. Courtney. Sie
kennt den Namen und die Stimme kommt ihr auch bekannt vor.
“James‘ mother, remember? We were over for dinner at
your place the other day.”
Jetzt fällt es Sonja wieder ein.
“Oh yeah, sure. I’m sorry, for
a short moment, I couldn’t remember who you were.”
“Oh, that’s no problem,” Courtney says. “That’s
happened to me before, too.”
Sonja ist es aber doch unangenehm. Sie hat den ganzen
Abend neben Courtney gesessen und viel mit ihr geredet. “How are you?”, fragt
sie schnell.
“I’m good, thanks,“ Courtney replies. “And
you?”
“I’m alright”, antwortet Sonja. “Nothing special.”
“Yeah, same here,” Courtney agrees. “By the
way, thanks again for the invite the other day. We really enjoyed the evening
with you.”
“Oh, no problem”, antwortet
Sonja. Dann fällt ihr ein, dass sie mit Courtney auch auf deutsch sprechen
kann. „Wir fanden den Abend auch alle sehr schön. Das sollten wir bald mal
wieder machen.“
“Yes, definitely,” Courtney agrees. “How’s the
job search going?”
„Geht so. Ich arbeite daran“,
antwortet sie, doch dann fällt ihr der Artikel wieder ein. „Weißt du was? Die
Zeitung wird meinen Artikel abdrucken.“
“Really? That’s nice. Do you mean the German
newspaper that Jens was talking about?”
„ Ja, genau. Die deutsche
Zeitung hier in Toronto.“
“That’s great news, Sonja. Congratulations.”
„Danke. Leider gibt es nicht
viel Geld dafür. Aber es ist ein Anfang.“
“Definitely. It’s a chance you have to take – and
you never know what might come out of it.”
„Stimmt.” Sonja nickt, auch wenn Courtney sie
nicht sehen kann. „Aber deshalb hast du nicht angerufen, oder?“
“True,” Courtney agrees. “I’m actually calling
to tell you that Tommy won’t be able to make it to the soccer game.”
„Tommy kann nicht mitkommen? Zu
dem Fußballspiel?“, fragt Sonja überrascht. „Aber warum? Und warum sagt er mir
das nicht selbst? Ich war doch gestern noch im Café und wir haben über das
Spiel gesprochen.“
“Yeah, I know. He told me that,” Courtney says.
“And he feels really bad about it, too. That’s why he asked me to call you because
he just didn’t know how to tell you.“
„Na“, erwidert Sonja spöttisch. “Das klingt ja
fast so, als ob ich ein Monster wäre.”
Courtney laughs. “Maybe you are?”
„WAS?“
“Sorry, just joking.”
„Hmpf.“
“He just felt bad, because he can’t come for a
stupid reason.”
„Ach, hat er vielleicht den
Geburtstag von seiner Mutter vergessen?“
Courtney laughs again. „No, it’s not that bad. He just has
to work on that day.“
„Er muss arbeiten?” Sonja kann
es nicht glauben. „Ich dachte, er wollte sich frei nehmen.“
“Hm. He forgot.”
„Vergessen? Aber er weiß doch
seit einem Monat, dass wir zum Spiel gehen wollen.“
“Yeah, I know.”
„Ach“, schnaubt Sonja. „MÄNNER!“
Courtney grins, even though Sonja can’t see
her. No wonder Tommy didn’t want to make the call himself, she thinks.
„Und was machen wir nun mit der
Karte?“
“What about your boyfriend,” Courtney suggest. “Would
he be interested in coming?“
Sonja überlegt. „Stephen, hm. Ich könnte
ihn fragen. Er ist allerdings kein großer Fußballfan.“
“Yeah, do that. I think James would like that, too. He’s still
talking about how Stephen let him play the drums.”
„Ok, ich frage ihn. Fragen kostet ja nichts.“
“True,” Courtney replies. The two women
continue speaking for a while, talking about different things – ‘Girl-Talk’ as
men would say.
Am Ende des Gesprächs fühlt
Sonja sich gut. Courtney ist nett und es macht Spaß, mit ihr zu reden. Und … langsam
bekommt Sonja das Gefühl, dass sie sich in Kanada vielleicht doch bald wohl
fühlen könnte.“
