Jens nickt. „Ja, das war echt ein spannender Film – und interessant. Woher wusstest du von diesem Film, James?“
“A guy from school told me about it,” James replies. “And he said that there will be a second part coming out soon.”
„Ein zweiter Teil?“
“Oh, that would be nice to see,” James’ mother says and turns to her husband. “Maybe we can go watch it. What do you think?”
“Yeah dad,” James adds enthusiastically. “Can we?”
„Klar, warum nicht?“, erwidert sein Vater. „Wir waren schon lange nicht mehr im Kino.“
James keeps quiet. He and his mom have been to the movies a few times since they’ve moved here; but his father was always at work.
„Wann kommt denn der Film in die Kinos?“
“It starts on Thursday next week,” James says. “We’d have to reserve tickets, though.”
“I could do that,” James’ mother adds. “Would Friday be ok?”
„Hm“, überlegt James’ Vater. „Warte lieber noch ein bisschen. Ich weiß nicht, ob ich hier bin.“
“What about Saturday?” James asks. “That’s not a weekday and you –“
„Ja, das stimmt“, unterbricht Jens. „Aber ich muss in der nächsten Woche wahrscheinlich noch einmal nach Deutschland fliegen.“
“Again?” James’ mother asks surprised. “You just went last week.”
„Ja, ich weiß. Aber wir arbeiten gerade an einem sehr wichtigen Projekt und die Firma in Deutschland hat einige Probleme.“
“Can’t anyone else go?” Courtney asks disappointed. “Why is it always you?”
„Es ist mein Projekt. Der Chef möchte, dass ich persönlich hinfliege. Da kann ich nichts machen – ich bin in der Probezeit.“
James listens to his parents‘ conversation. They’ve had this discussion a few times already and it always ends the same. His dad says that he is on probation and that there is nothing he can do.
“So how long is it this time?” Courtney goes on.
„Wahrscheinlich eine Woche ... oder etwas länger.“
“A whole week? But – ”
“So, when are you coming back?” James interrupts his mother.
„Das weiß ich noch nicht genau. Wenn ich Ende nächster Woche fliege ... dann eine Woche später.“
“But …” James exclaims, “by then the tryouts will be half way over ...”
„Tryouts?“, fragt Jens irritiert; doch dann erinnert er sich wieder. „Ach ja, das Auswahltraining für die Fußballmannschaft. Wann beginnt es?“
“First week in April.”
„Und wie lange trainiert ihr insgesamt?“
“For 2 weeks.”
„Hm, das könnte problematisch werden.“
James looks down. He doesn’t know what to say.
„Tut mir echt leid, mein Sohn“, entschuldigt sich Jens erneut. „Ich – “
“That’s all right,” James replies disappointed. Then he gets up.
„Vielleicht könnte ich …“, beginnt Jens noch einmal. Doch James hört ihm gar nicht zu. Er ist aufgestanden und geht in Richtung Tür.
“Honey,” James mom begins concerned.
“It’s ok mom,” James says and shakes his head. “I’m going to bed.”
